The Environmental Group and Reclaim Waste Secure EPA Approval for Groundbreaking PFAS Treatment Facility

EPA Approval for Patent PFAS Extraction

April 2025

Australian Patent received EPA Approval

The Environmental Group Limited (ASX: EGL) and Reclaim Waste have received EPA approval for their patent PFAS treatment system at the Laverton facility in Victoria. This marks a major step forward in PFAS removal and environmental protection in Australia.

EPA Approval for PFAS Drives Innovation and Industry Collaboration

The system is fully operational with EPA license at Reclaim Waste’s Laverton facility in Victoria. Notably, the approval follows the grant of EGL’s Australian patent. This patented process improves on traditional foam fractionation by integrating hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants into the gas flow—dramatically increasing the efficiency and spectrum of PFAS compounds extracted from wastewater, soils and biosolids.

Working in close collaboration, Reclaim Waste has provided essential site infrastructure, operational excellence, and deep industry insight to bring this breakthrough technology into full-scale commercial operation.

“We are proud to be working alongside Reclaim Waste—an organisation that continues to push boundaries in sustainable waste solutions,” said Jason Dixon, CEO of The Environmental Group.
“Their commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility has been crucial to the success of this project.

About Reclaim Waste: Driving the Circular Future

Reclaim Waste is a highly regarded Australian waste treatment provider known for its forward-thinking approach to resource recovery, recycling, and environmental sustainability. With a focus on closing the loop, the company operates with a clear mission: to transform waste into value and prevent harmful pollutants from entering ecosystems.

The EPA approval at Reclaim’s Laverton liquid waste facility cements its place as an industry trailblazer—ready to tackle one of the most challenging and urgent environmental threats of our time: PFAS contamination.

“Achieving EPA approval for PFAS treatment is a proud moment for our team,” said a spokesperson for Reclaim Waste.

“We are committed to staying ahead of regulatory change and environmental need—and this technology allows us to deliver on that vision. We believe in a PFAS-free future, and this partnership with EGL brings that one step closer to reality.”

Delivering Results with Real Impact

Reclaim Repurpose
The Laverton facility is now licensed to accept PFAS-contaminated liquid waste in accordance with the EPA’s updated March 2025 waste classification framework. Moreover, trials have demonstrated high effectiveness in treating contaminated soils and biosolids.

As a result, this extends the system’s application across legacy contamination sites, urban redevelopment areas, and active industrial operations. This opens the door to a wide range of compliant, commercially viable PFAS treatment solutions across:
  • Airports, fire training sites, and defence facilities
  • Civil and infrastructure redevelopment projects
  • Waterways, wetlands, and nature reserves
  • Industrial and manufacturing precincts
  • Agricultural and residential areas impacted by legacy PFAS use

Why PFAS Matters

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are synthetic chemicals commonly used in firefighting foams, industrial applications, and everyday consumer products.
PFAS are extremely resistant to breaking down in the environment and often referred to as “forever chemicals.”
Over time, Consequently, PFAS can accumulate in water, soil, and even in the human body, posing long-term environmental and health concerns.

With growing evidence of their toxic impact on health and the environment, governments around the world—including in Australia—are moving fast to introduce tighter controls, disposal thresholds, and remediation requirements. This regulatory momentum creates a clear need for scalable, high-performance treatment solutions.

The combination of EGL’s patented treatment technology and Reclaim Waste’s operational capability offers a powerful platform for addressing PFAS at scale.

Together, the organisations are redefining what’s possible in waste management and environmental remediation—proving that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand.
